The Evil (1978)











A foundation for drug rehabilitation purchases an old, historic mansion in a picturesque valley. The history of the valley is that the Native Americans referred to it as "Valley of the Devils" and the house itself was built over an old sulfur pit. As the counselors move into the mansion, they begin to notice mysterious events in the house. When the program director opens a mysterious door in the basement, all hell breaks loose. Literally.

This 1952 episode features Lon Chaney, Jr as the Frankenstein monster and John Newland as Dr. Frankenstein. Dr. Victor Frankenstein has been conducting unknown experiments in an isolated castle away from the mainland. He states that he believes medical science is ready to create an artificial human being. His fiance jokingly, and unknowingly, speculates that Victor has isolated himself while trying to create this perfect man.  What kind of experiments is Dr. Frankenstein conducting and why has he confined his experiments to a prison-like castle away from everyone else?

Dennis Weaver plays a businessman, David Mann, traveling through the desert who unknowingly makes an enemy of a driver in an old tanker truck. Struggling with the pressures of his job and family life, Mann is pushed to his limit when the tanker truck taunts and races him while en route to a business appointment. Every attempt to escape the truck seems futile...even deadly. 

This is an early Steven Spielberg made for television movie.

Silent Night, Bloody Night (1972)




An old New England mansion with a sordid past is going on the market after being vacant for 20 years. On Christmas Eve, 1950, the original owner, Wilfred Butler, burned alive. The house was left to his grandson Jeffrey Butler. Jeffrey is selling the house to the town for fifty thousand dollars in cash. His lawyer, Mr Carter, speculates that Jeffrey could get much more money for the house but Jeffrey wants a quick sell. While the mayor goes to the bank to get the cash, Jeffrey Butler has arrived in town and a mysterious caller had begun taunting the town's leading citizens...Did I mention an escaped mental patient from the state hospital for the criminally insane???

This film features David Carradine as one of the town's leading citizens.

The Amazing Colossal Man (1957)






When the army conducts an experiment that doesn't go as planned,  Lt Col. Glenn Manning is exposed to the blast from a plutonium bomb. With over 90 percent of his body burned, he isn't expected to make it through the night. But despite that prognosis, Manning survives the night and miraculously heals. He not only heals, he begins to grow larger and larger. As his body changes, though, it becomes more and more apparent that his personality is changing, as well.

It seems something curious happened to each of its recent tenants, leading to their demise. As the detective tries to piece together the actor's puzzling disappearence, the story centers around the house and its tenants in four individual tales. Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Ingrid Pitt are featured. The film is an Amicus Studios anthology film.

Tales of Tomorrow: The Evil Within (1953)

 



A bored housewife waits at home everyday for her scientist husband to return and spend time with her. Her husband comes home early one day because the refrigerator in the lab breaks. He brings home his serum that needs to be refrigerated. The serum brings out the worst in all the animals in the lab and he speculates that the same is possible with humans. After nearly breaking his specimens, he puts the test tubes in the refrigerator and returns to the lab. What could possibly go wrong? 

This episode features a brief appearance by James Dean.
